He is the director of the Center for Comprehensive European and International Studies at the Higher School of Economics and a senior researcher at the Institute of Far Eastern Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He is also a Member of the Valdai Discussion Club, as well as a member of the Russian International Affairs Council.
